My name is Shay Knapp. I am the occupational therapist for Alliance Public Schools. I received my undergraduate degree in social work from Chadron State College in 1995, and my master’s degree in occupational therapy from the University of South Dakota in 1997. I provide the occupational therapy (OT) services to the entire Alliance school district. I am currently in my 14th year of working with children, with the 2011-2012 school year being my 11th with Alliance Public Schools. A school-based occupational therapist works in conjunction with a student’s IEP team to help that student improve his/her physical, sensory, and/or perceptual development for successful school functioning. It is this IEP team process and educational purpose that distinguishes school based OT and PT from clinical or medical therapy services.
I grew up in Alliance, but currently reside in Hay Springs. My husband (Terry) is a lineman for Northwest Rural Public Power in Hay Springs. Terry and I enjoy being outside, camping, hiking. I also enjoy reading, cooking, and playing with my dogs.
If you have any questions about your child’s motor development, please feel free to contact me at 762-4331.
